Most in-house 3D printing programmes we see fall into one of four application categories. Each carries different requirements for machine class, materials, and workflow.
Rapid prototyping
Design iteration on physical parts — mechanical enclosures, product mockups, ergonomic reviews. Compresses design cycles from weeks to days by removing dependency on external print bureaus. Typically FDM or resin, entry-to-mid tier.
Spare parts and repairs
On-demand production of replacement components for machinery, tooling, or fittings that are out of production or slow to source. Particularly valuable for businesses maintaining legacy equipment. Typically FDM in engineering-grade materials.
Custom tooling and jigs
Fixtures, guides, moulds, and workshop aids tailored to your specific processes. Faster and cheaper than machining or outsourcing. Materials chosen based on load, temperature, and durability requirements.
Low-volume production
Short-run production of end-use parts where injection moulding is uneconomical. Suits custom or personalised products, niche accessories, or bridge production before scaling to traditional manufacturing. Requires more capable industrial-grade machines.
Scope
End-to-end delivery from initial assessment through operational handover. Individual stages can also be engaged discretely — for example, an independent machine selection review with no obligation to proceed with installation.
